Evaluation question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback
From my audience feedback I learnt that lighting is key for a successful video, as I received feedback on the first draft of my music video from my audience; saying that at some points within the video the visuals are too dark and you can't clearly see the visuals and what is happening on screen and overall pulling down the product as a whole.
Before publishing the first draft I had already noticed that the footage was rather dark, so I tried to salvage it by upping the exposure and the contrast, overall it did make it quite a bit lighter than the original, however as it was filmed at night, doing this caused the quality, in terms of pixilation, to go down and it no longer had that music video standard of quality.
I then went around to the people that I had showed the first draft to and asked them if they could think of anything that I could do to better the video, a lot of people said to turn up the brightness / exposure and after I had explained to them that I had already done that there was only one more clear solution which would be that I would have to re-film the entire video all over again.
I ended up filming it again and the result was exactly what I wanted. We moved where we were filming to another location, still in town but this location was ten times better, as the video came out a lot brighter and you can see everything that's going on and due to it being brighter, the quality is also ten times better.
Another instance of this was when I sent out the survey monkey for the links between my video and ancillary texts and asked three questions, could you spot the links, are they effective and if there could be any improvements, after sending it out to 5 people I got 3 replies. All of the comments said that the links I had were very good and very effective, however a common improvement was that there could be more direct links with the video, as the adverts and the digipak work well together, but there aren't that many links between those and the music video itself.
To correct this I added the drawing that I created of "SCOUT" at the very end of the video, as this is on both one of the adverts and on the inside of the digipak. This then created a direct link between the three products as they now have another theme / visual that runs between all of them. If it wasn't for this feedback I wouldn't have added this extra feature that made them more coherent as a collective product, ultimately resulting in them being more distant and not looking like they belong to one another
Finally I've posted my video onto YouTube and received a couple of comments on that from complete strangers both are positive and it seems my video is being well received by the members of the public who are actually taking the time to watch my video.
